Terex Mini Excavators

Mini excavators, or "motorised buckets", have become part and parcel on any construction site.

As the costs for skilled labour are more likely to rise than to fall, the demand for mini excavators will remain high in the foreseeable future. For this reason, the product range of equipment manufacturer Terex, headquartered in Langenburg, Germany, has encompassed these small-size powerful units for years. Now it is time for new additions to this product line.

The weights of the Terex HR 12, HR 14, HR 16, and HR 18 Mini Excavators have ranged between 1.7 and 4.7 tonnes so far. The family of four is expecting two additions to be launched at bauma 2001: HR 11 and HR 13. As the names suggest, the HR 11 is a lighter and the HR 13 a heavier edition of the 1.7-tonne HR 12.

"With these two new developments, Terex has broadened its range, thus offering the suitable machine for any requirement," says Sales Director Peter van Acker about Schaeff Terex's motivation.

Weighing in at less than 1.5 tonnes, the HR 11 is the light-weight of the range of mini excavators. It can be easily transported on any passenger car trailer permitting a total weight of two tonnes. The HR 11 is available with canopy and rigid undercarriage only, resulting in considerable weight reduction. As the machine does not come equipped with additional control circuits, its weight is further reduced. However, additional control circuits can be re-fitted on request. During all of the slimming down process, substantial emphasis was placed on the fact that "the little one" can perform equally well and as much as the HR 12, its larger brother.

The standard equipment of the HR 13 has been considerably improved - many of the optional accessories of the smaller HR 12 have become standard features on the HR 13. Take, for example, the hydraulically extendable undercarriage, one axial piston pump for independent swing movements, the swing brake, the dipperstick extension, increased operating pressure and a larger rear weight for improved stability. Given all these enhancements the machine weighs in at almost two tonnes with the dimensions remaining almost unchanged as compared to the lighter HR 12.

Peter van Acker about the philosophy behind Schaeff Terex's extended offer - the HR 11 "light version" and the HR 13"luxury version": "With these two novel mini excavators customers can choose among more machines and select the machine perfectly matched to their requirements."
